Airport Security Fees to Increase April 1, 2010

The cost to travel by air is set to increase next month. Transport Minister John Baird announced yesterday that an increase to the security fees paid by air travellers will take effect on the first of April. The money will go into security upgrades at all Canadian airports — including paying for new scanning machines, more staff, and upgrading current ageing security infrastructure like luggage scanners — and will complement an additional $1.5 billion over five years for the Canadian Air Transportation Safety Agency (CATSA).

·         Domestic travel will cost an additional $2.58 per direction.

·         Trans-border travel will cost an additional $4.37 per direction.

·         International travel will cost an additional $8.91 per directions.

These fees will be incorporated into the cost of all tickets purchased after April 1, 2010

Canadians Now Require Passports for Mexico

As of today Mexico has introduced new entry requirements for Canadian visitors. Canadian citizens will require a valid passport. Permanent residents will need either a permanent resident card, identity certificate or refugee travel document. This move will align Mexico with security measures set by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
